So I haven't blogged in a month. My last post was June 30 and to be honest with you, it's because I've felt lost with this space. For the majority of this summer, I haven't really known where I want to take this space of mine.

I have such a love for beauty and style but I'm not always 100% sure how to express it. I also question what this space contributes to this community. While I write because it's therapeutic and relaxing for me, I do have a desire to help others through this platform. Otherwise, I would just keep a scrapbook for myself. I want to find a better way of adding my own personal touch, so that it becomes just that much more meaningful.

I want this space to be an expression of who I am as a person. I'm a girl, in her early twenties, trying to finish school and decide what she wants to do with her life. I have all these interests and questions about the world, and I want to use this space to share them with anyone who wants to listen (or read for that matter). 

This summer has been one full of questions. I can't really say it's been a relaxing summer, but it hasn't been hectic either. I feel like I've gone through the motions but haven't lived the life experiences. I want to push myself harder to strive for more and not feel stuck in certain situations. 

Don't like your job? Find a new one. Aren't happy with your life? Try something new. Want to master a new skill? Just. Do. It. I may be a little late to the party but here's to me finally doing the things that make me happy instead of just complaining about certain aspects of my life. 

I'm well aware that this is all easier said then done. However, I think I'm finally in a mental state that is strong enough to push through and accept that I have to make my own decisions for my happiness rather then simply wait for them to fall into my lap.

These photos were taken a while back but I still love the outfit in general and find it perfectly sleek and polished for a summer evening :)

As soon as I saw this dress I feel in love and couldn't leave without it. That right there, is the true problem of a shopper ;) Right away, I saw myself wearing it super casually (like with these boots) or with a black belt and a pair of nude heels. 

I was also really pulled in by the colours of the flowers. The purple and lilac are so vibrant that they catch your eye right away. 
In terms of styling it, I decided to have some fun with the rest of my accessories and wear my burgundy hat and a berry toned lipstick. While I don't think it's always necessary to match everything, I had some fun doing it with this look. :)

I really love when I can wear dresses in the winter time.While I know that this year is not the norm here in Montreal, it's nice to be able to wear a dress and not feel like my legs are going to fall off. Pair the outfit with a wool coat, or even a leather jacket (on warmer days) and it fits perfectly.

I love days when I feel super comfortable and happy in my outfit and that's exactly how I feel in what I'm wearing. Winter can definitely be one of those times of the year when we aren't all that motivated to put any effort into our style. However, we could let it be a season when we experiment and have fun with our wardrobe. Why not try different textures and combine some spring items with our warmer pieces...

 This blazer is quite a casual one, the cut fits really nicely with jeans or even paired with a skirt. However, you can definitely find some more fitted ones if your looking to pair it with a suit. My favourite style is the tuxedo blazer because they work for both casual and smarter outfits.

This weekend, I had my work New Year party, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to showcase the outfit and makeup I decided to wear that evening. There was no theme but I did want to go for a winter chic look, and so decided to centre my outfit around the lace skirt I opted to wear. I hope you enjoy! <3

The Makeup:

For my makeup, I decided I wanted to focus on my eyes and keep the lips quite neutral. It's actually one of the first times I opt for a nude lip and I'm quite impressed. 

I didn't do anything too special with my base foundation. I just wanted to create a really clean surface so I used one of my high coverage foundations and reached for a translucent powder so that it would set and stay in place all night.

On my eyes, I went for some really nice bronzy, gold tones and a super defined winged liner. I wanted to create a "cut-crease" look but after that failed, I continued on to to finish a golden look. I always love adding a winged liner for "party looks" because it creates just the right amount of definition.

To finish off the makeup, I went in with a highlight and bronzer palette and to add just a bit more shimmer to the look, I reached for another rose gold highlight. Of course, because it's a party and we all know how hectic they can me, I finished off by spritzing a setting spray to keep it all in place.

Finally, for my lips, I used a classic nudy-pink to bring it all together. I've never really worn shades like this in the past, but it could very well be something I grab for more often. I was really impressed with how well it suited me and the entire look.

The Outfit:

Like I had mentioned earlier, I wanted the main focus to be my white skirt, so I kept everything else very plain but then added in some fun sparkly jewelry. I think the roll-neck, long-sleeve shirt paired very nicely with the skirt because it made it that more special for winter and you can never go wrong with a pair of opaque, black tights. 

I've always loved statement pieces when it comes to accessories so this party was the perfect excuse to pull out the sparkle and wear this gorgeous necklace. The pearl earrings were also a cute finishing touch that brought the entire look together. 

Winter is finally upon us and the mixed emotions are real. While I could sit here and complain about the cold, I'll instead, choose to simply point out that I love what the white snow does for my lighting. There, moving on. :) 

To be completely honest, I fell in love with this coat because of the collar. The fact that I can step outside, in minus degree weather, without a scarf is pretty remarkable. It's a perfect length for the days I want to get a little more dressed up but don't want my legs to freeze in the time spent outside.

The versatility of the coat is definitely a bonus and I've been in need of something a bit more clean cut. Too often, I get sucked in to simply wearing my down-filled coat that...let's be real, while it's very warm, isn't appropriate for all occasions. 

Hello 2016! 

I'm so looking forward to this coming year and all that it has to offer. These past few have been huge learning years. I don't think you're ever fully prepared for all the hurdles that life brings you in your early 20's. And I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like it can all be too overwhelming.  However, every year that passes, while more obstacles are thrown your way, you get a little more confident each time. 

Towards the halfway point of 2015, I took a major step in creating Emilia'sStyle. While it can seem like a small accomplishment, it was ground breaking for me. I've always had a soft spot for beautiful things, mainly in fashion and cosmetics and had been watching YouTuber's and reading blogs for years. In the back of my head, I had always wanted to develop a little space for this creative side of me but never felt confident enough to do so. Partially because I was fixated on perfection and also because of self-inflicted doubt. 

 

 I am so grateful I got over those fears and plucked up the courage to pursue the dream. I think we sometimes undervalue "small" accomplishments because we deem them insignificant (I sure do...). However, the truth is, I've come to realize that the dream is simply a pretty picture in my mind, however this blog is a real piece of work I can show to people and that I'm genuinely proud of. 

 I can't wait to see how I'm able to continue to apply this new found confidence into the rest of my goals. I hope you're able to fulfill your dreams this year and perhaps this has helped someone out there lacking some confidence to get out and show the world just how special they are.
